Arthur Fils reached the semi-finals at the 2026 Miami Open after defeating Tommy Paul in a closely contested match that ended with a score of 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 7-6(6). The match lasted two hours and 47 minutes, showcasing Fils’ resilience as he saved four match points during the encounter.
Ranked world No. 31 at the start of the tournament, Fils’ victory over Paul not only marked his first Masters 1000 semi-final appearance but also earned him 200 points, bringing his total to 1,640 points. This performance has propelled him to the 28th position in the Live ATP Rankings.
In a remarkable display of determination, Fils was down 2-6 in the deciding set tiebreak but rallied to win six consecutive points, demonstrating his fighting spirit. “I just had to believe in myself. That was the most important,” Fils stated after the match.
Fils will now face world No. 22 Jiri Lehecka in the semi-finals, where he hopes to continue his impressive run. Reflecting on his achievement, Fils remarked, “That’s the best result I had in my life so far, so I will try to do my best in the semi, but now I’m pretty happy.”
Fils, who was a quarter-finalist at last year’s edition of the Miami Open, has shown significant improvement in his game over the past year. His career-high ranking of 14th was achieved in April 2025, and this latest success could further enhance his standing in the ATP rankings.
As Fils prepares for the semi-finals, the tennis community is eager to see if he can maintain his momentum against Lehecka. “Look, today I was just fighting, and even if [Paul] is my friend out of the court, when we are stepping on the court, it’s either him or me, and well, I prefer when it’s me,” he added, highlighting the competitive nature of the sport.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timing of the semi-final match, but anticipation is building for what could be another thrilling encounter for the young French player.
