RGPV Food Hygiene Incident Raises Concerns Among Students

During lunch hour at the campus canteen in Gandhinagar, students alleged that they found what appeared to be a lizard in their meal. Eyewitnesses reported that a canteen worker consumed the suspected lizard, claiming it was actually a piece of capsicum. The incident was captured on video, which subsequently went viral on social media.

In the video, a thali containing dal, sabzi, and roti was shown, with an unusual object that sparked outrage among students. One student was heard questioning, “Bhai saab, yeh kya hai, dekh lo,” expressing disbelief at the situation.

In response to the uproar, RGPV announced the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the matter. The canteen operator has denied the allegations, asserting that the object in question was indeed capsicum, as claimed by the staff member who ate it. The worker stated, “Yeh toh shimla mirchi ka tukda hai,” attempting to reassure students.

Despite the canteen’s defense, students have demanded that the canteen be shut down until the investigation is complete, citing concerns over food hygiene. Eyewitnesses expressed horror at the staff member’s actions, with one student remarking, “Yeh pahu hai iske. Chipkali hai, uski aankh nikal rahi thi,” highlighting the disturbing nature of the incident.

RGPV’s director has assured students that their health will not be compromised, emphasizing the importance of food safety on campus. The incident has raised significant concerns about the standards of food hygiene in the university’s canteen.
