Finalissima Cancelled: Argentina vs Spain Match Called Off
By Ananya Rao / 27.03.2026
The Finalissima between Argentina and Spain, originally scheduled for March 26, 2026, has been cancelled due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This decision has left players and fans disappointed, particularly Argentina’s Alexis Mac Allister, who expressed his feelings on the matter.
Mac Allister stated, “It’s a shame (not to play the Finalissima) because it was a nice match. It didn’t happen and now we have to focus on the friendlies.” The cancellation has disrupted Argentina’s international break, which also included a friendly match against Qatar that has now been affected.
Argentina was set to face Spain in what was expected to be a thrilling showdown between the champions of Europe and South America. The match was highly anticipated, but logistical disagreements between UEFA and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) regarding the venue contributed to the cancellation.
In light of the cancellation, Argentina has arranged friendly matches against Mauritania and Zambia to maintain competitive play. Mac Allister, who has earned 42 caps and scored six goals for the national team, emphasized the importance of playing, stating, “Matches are won on the pitch. We are players and we want to play, that’s the most important thing. I would like to play it later.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding when the Finalissima might be rescheduled, leaving fans and players alike in anticipation of future developments. The cancellation marks a significant moment in the football calendar, as such matches are crucial for international teams to showcase their talent on a global stage.
