By Rohan Mehta / 31.03.2026
On March 31, 2026, the IPL 2026 season kicked off for the Rajasthan Royals as they faced off against the Chennai Super Kings at Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The match began with Riyan Parag winning the toss and opting to bowl first, a decision that would prove pivotal as the game unfolded.
Chennai Super Kings struggled to build momentum, ultimately being bowled out for 127 runs in 19.4 overs. Jamie Overton was the standout performer for CSK, scoring 43 runs off 36 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered against a disciplined bowling attack.
In response, Rajasthan Royals chased down the target of 128 runs in just 12.1 overs, showcasing their batting prowess. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the star of the innings, scoring an impressive 52 runs off only 17 balls, which helped set the tone for a swift victory.
Nandre Burger also made a significant impact with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 26 runs and earning the Player of the Match award for his efforts. The Royals finished the match with 47 balls to spare, highlighting their dominance in this encounter.
Riyan Parag reflected on the match, stating, “I got lucky with the toss, but I think the way we executed it, we had like a couple of days’ practice, I think, before CSK arrived, and it was a red-soil wicket, but then it was a lot of rain as well, so we knew the moisture was going to play a part. And yeah, I think everyone executed plans really nicely.”
This victory marks a strong start for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026 season, setting a positive tone for their campaign. The performance against a seasoned team like Chennai Super Kings will boost their confidence as they move forward in the tournament.
As the IPL continues, fans will be watching closely to see how both teams adapt and respond in their upcoming matches. The Royals’ ability to chase down targets effectively could be a critical factor in their success this season.
