The Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 13-2 on March 30, 2026, at Citizens Bank Park. Joey Wiemer continued his impressive start to the season, extending his homer streak to two games.

Wiemer tied a major league record by reaching base in ten consecutive plate appearances to start the season, matching the record previously set by Carlos Delgado in 2002. “That’s what makes me, me,” Wiemer stated, reflecting on his performance.

Starting for the Phillies was Taijuan Walker, who held a 0-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, while Foster Griffin was expected to start for the Nationals, also with a 0-0 record and 0.00 ERA. The game began at 6:40 p.m. ET.

In a dominant display, seven Washington batters recorded at least two hits against the Phillies. The Nationals improved their season record to 2-1, while the Phillies fell to 1-2.

Wiemer’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as he became the second player in the live ball era to reach base ten consecutive times to start the season, a record that dates back to 1951. The previous record holder, Carlos Delgado, reached base ten times in 2002.

The Phillies faced challenges with several players on the injured list, including Orion Kerkering, Zack Wheeler, and Max Lazar, each sidelined for 15 days, and Josiah Gray and DJ Herz, who are out for 60 days.

Despite the score, Wiemer emphasized his commitment to playing hard, stating, “Regardless of the score, situation, I’m going to play hard.” His performance has been a bright spot for the Phillies amid their early-season struggles.

As the season progresses, observers will be watching to see if Wiemer can maintain his record-setting pace and how the Phillies will respond to their current challenges.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the status of injured players and potential roster changes as the season unfolds.
