Al-Hilal vs Al-Taawoun: A Shift in Expectations
By Rohan Mehta / 04.04.2026
Before the recent match between Al-Hilal and Al-Taawoun, expectations were high for Al-Hilal, particularly with star player Karim Benzema leading the team. However, the absence of Benzema due to a toe injury altered the dynamics significantly. Al-Hilal’s manager, Simone Inzaghi, had to adapt his strategy, starting Mohamed Kader Miti for the first time in the Roshen League due to injuries within the squad.
During the match held at Kingdom Arena, Miti scored Al-Hilal’s first goal in the 43rd minute, marking a decisive moment for both the player and the team. This goal came as a crucial boost, especially considering that Al-Hilal’s line-up included seven foreign players due to various injuries and suspensions, including Sergej Milinković-Savić, who was out due to accumulated yellow cards.
The immediate effect of Miti’s goal was palpable, as it not only uplifted the team’s morale but also showcased Miti’s potential after joining Al-Hilal from Stade Rennais for a reported fee of €30 million. Prior to this match, Miti had played four matches, starting only once against Al-Wahda, and had accumulated 106 minutes of playtime in the AFC Champions League.
Al-Hilal currently stands second in the league with 64 points, trailing leaders Al-Nassr by six points. The team’s reliance on Miti to step up in the absence of key players like Benzema highlights the shifting expectations within the squad. As fans have come to depend on Miti as a main striker, his performance against Al-Taawoun could signal a turning point for his role in the team.
Expert opinions suggest that Miti’s emergence as a key player could be vital for Al-Hilal’s title aspirations this season. “No Benzema, no problem… Miti makes his mark with Al-Hilal,” reflects the sentiment surrounding his impactful performance. This shift in reliance from established stars to emerging talents may redefine the team’s strategy as they push for the championship.
As the season progresses, the impact of injuries on team dynamics will continue to be a focal point. Al-Hilal’s ability to adapt to these challenges, particularly with players like Miti stepping up, will be crucial in their pursuit of the league title.
