On April 3, 2026, a surprising incident unfolded in Thazhe Chovva, Kannur, where a cobra was found inside a parked car. This unexpected event raised concerns about wildlife interactions in urban areas, particularly during the rainy season when snakes are more likely to seek shelter.

Prior to this incident, there was a general expectation that snakes would remain hidden in their natural habitats, especially in urban settings. However, the discovery of the cobra inside the vehicle challenged this notion, revealing the potential for wildlife to venture into human spaces.

The decisive moment occurred when Manoj parked his car and went to drink tea, inadvertently allowing the cobra to enter the vehicle. Local residents noticed the snake and promptly informed Manoj, prompting immediate action.

Rescue efforts were led by Jishnu Panankavu and Sanal, who, along with local activists and forest rescuers, arrived at the scene. The cobra was found hiding inside the rear tire of the car, which complicated the rescue operation. The entire process lasted approximately 30 minutes, showcasing the urgency and efficiency of the responders.

After the successful rescue, the cobra was safely released back into its natural habitat, mitigating any potential danger to the community. This incident not only highlights the importance of wildlife rescue but also serves as a reminder for residents to exercise caution when parking vehicles, particularly during the rainy season.

Experts emphasize the need for awareness regarding wildlife behavior, especially in areas where urban development encroaches on natural habitats. Arangil Sreedharan, a local wildlife expert, remarked, “Thangalkoru puncirikkunna moorkhan paampu,” indicating the need for vigilance in such situations.

The cobra was suspected to have entered the car from a nearby bush area, illustrating how easily wildlife can adapt to urban environments. This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the delicate balance between human habitation and wildlife preservation.

As urban areas continue to expand, the likelihood of similar encounters may increase, necessitating ongoing education and awareness campaigns about wildlife safety and coexistence.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact circumstances that led to the cobra’s entry into the vehicle, but the swift response from the community and rescuers ensured a safe outcome for both the snake and the residents.
