Tristan Stubbs Involved in Controversial Glove Change Incident
By Rohan Mehta / 12.04.2026
During a recent IPL match on April 12, 2026, Tristan Stubbs of the Delhi Capitals faced a challenging situation regarding his equipment. Stubbs scored 60 runs off 38 balls but struggled with his gloves, which he described as damp and uncomfortable.
In the 19th over of the match, as Delhi Capitals needed 32 runs off 12 balls, Stubbs requested a glove change. However, the request was denied by the umpires because it was mid-over, leading to a heated confrontation involving his teammate Nitish Rana.
Nitish Rana was seen arguing with the fourth umpire over the denied request, emphasizing the potential impact of playing with damp gloves on performance and safety. “Playing with damp gloves could affect performance and safety,” Rana stated after the match.
The incident escalated, resulting in Rana being fined 25 percent of his match fee for his outburst. Observers noted that Stubbs appeared visibly frustrated, flinging his helmet in anger upon returning to the dressing room.
Ultimately, the Delhi Capitals lost the match to Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs, marking Chennai’s first victory of IPL 2026. This defeat also marked the second consecutive loss for the Delhi Capitals.
Jamie Overton of Chennai Super Kings played a significant role in the match, taking four wickets and contributing to the team’s success.
As the season progresses, the Delhi Capitals will need to address their recent performance issues, while Chennai Super Kings will look to build on this momentum.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further disciplinary actions related to the glove change incident.
