By Rohan Mehta / 13.04.2026
In a thrilling encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in yesterday’s IPL match. RCB posted a formidable total of 240 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs, while MI managed to score 222 runs for 5 wickets.
Phil Salt was instrumental in RCB’s victory, scoring 76 runs off just 32 balls, which included 6 sixes and 6 fours. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award. Sherfane Rutherford also made a significant contribution for MI, scoring 71 runs off 31 balls, with 8 sixes to his name.
RCB’s innings showcased two distinct phases, with a relentless approach followed by a more measured pace. Virat Kohli added to the total with a solid 50 runs off 38 balls, while Rajat Patidar supported the innings with a quick 53 runs off just 20 balls.
The match was marked by MI’s struggle to chase down the challenging target. RCB’s total of 240 runs has now officially become the highest team total at Wankhede Stadium in IPL history. Observers noted that Rohit Sharma’s injury disrupted MI’s momentum, which was a turning point in the match.
With this victory, RCB now has 6 points from 4 matches, placing them in 3rd position in the IPL 2026 standings. In contrast, MI remains at the bottom with just 2 points from 4 matches.
The next match in the IPL 2026 season is set to take place on April 13, 2026, between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. Fans are eager to see how the teams will perform as the tournament progresses.
