Ajinkya Rahane Fined Rs 12 Lakh After KKR’s Loss to CSK
By Vikram Nair / 14.04.2026
Ajinkya Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow overrate during a match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost by 32 runs on April 15, 2026. This defeat marked KKR’s fifth consecutive loss in the IPL 2026 season, leaving them at the bottom of the points table with just one point.
In their chase of CSK’s total of 192 runs, KKR managed to score only 160 runs. Rahane contributed 28 runs off 22 balls, but the team struggled significantly during the powerplay, scoring only 36-37 runs. Rahane acknowledged the team’s failure to build momentum during the innings, stating, “We needed one batter to bat deep and then take it in the end.”
CSK’s innings was bolstered by key contributions from Sanju Samson and Dewald Brevis, who helped set a challenging target. KKR’s bowling unit did manage to restrict CSK to 192 runs after a tough start, but their batting performance fell short.
Following the match, Rahane indicated that KKR may consider changes in their team combination for the upcoming match against Gujarat Titans, saying, “Yes, we’ll have to sit in the dressing room, think about the combinations.” This reflects the urgency for KKR to find a winning strategy as they continue to struggle in the tournament.
Rahane also commented on the bowling performance, noting, “I thought with the ball, we were treated really well.” Despite the challenges, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook, stating, “What is important for all of us as a group is to stay positive, keep our heads up, keep our chins up, and just focus on the moment.”
As KKR looks to regroup, observers are keen to see how the team responds in their next match and whether they can turn their fortunes around in the ongoing IPL season. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any specific changes to the lineup, but the pressure is mounting for Rahane and his team to deliver results.
