Jacob Oram Responds to IPL vs PSL Comparison
By Vikram Nair / 14.04.2026
The IPL vs PSL debate has been a recurring topic during the PSL 2026 season. Recently, Rilee Rossouw made headlines with his comment that the Indian Premier League (IPL) feels “more like a movie than actual cricket.” This statement drew a light-hearted response from Jacob Oram, who is currently serving as an assistant coach for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Oram, who has played in the IPL but has not taken on a coaching role in the league, laughed at Rossouw’s remark, asking, “Did you say like a movie?” His reaction highlights the ongoing discussions about the differences between the two leagues, both of which have garnered significant attention in the cricketing world.
In his comments, Oram acknowledged the growth of the IPL over the years, stating, “I haven’t coached in the IPL. I played in the IPL and that was a long time ago and it has grown into a bit of a behemoth.” This reflects the significant expansion and commercialization of the IPL, which has become a global phenomenon since its inception.
As the PSL 2026 season progresses, Oram has expressed his enjoyment in his coaching role, saying, “This is my first opportunity in the PSL and I’m loving it.” His enthusiasm for the league is evident, especially as he navigates the challenges of the season, which is currently being held without spectators due to a spike in oil prices.
In the ongoing PSL season, Islamabad United has had a mixed performance, with three wins, two defeats, and one match washed out. In contrast, Quetta Gladiators, another team in the league, has played five matches, securing three wins and two losses. The competitive nature of the PSL continues to attract attention, even amid the challenges posed by external factors.
Oram also noted the difference in duration between the IPL and PSL, mentioning that the IPL is twice as long as the PSL. This aspect may contribute to the differing experiences and perceptions of players and coaches involved in each league.
Looking ahead, Oram expressed a desire for crowds to return to the stadiums, stating, “I’d love to have crowds here for that vibe and atmosphere.” The absence of fans has been felt deeply in the cricketing community, as the energy and excitement of live audiences play a crucial role in the sport.
As the PSL 2026 season continues, observers will be keen to see how teams adapt to the unique challenges they face and how the ongoing IPL vs PSL debate evolves with the performances of players like Jacob Oram and Rilee Rossouw.
