By Rohan Mehta / 14.04.2026
Bayern Munich and Arsenal both took slender leads into their home legs after narrow away victories in the Champions League quarter-finals. Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid, with Harry Kane and Luis Díaz scoring crucial goals. Arsenal also secured a win against Sporting Clube de Portugal, thanks to a decisive strike from Kai Havertz.
In the match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé managed to score for Real Madrid, but it was not enough to overcome Bayern’s advantage. Bayern’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The second leg of the Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid quarter-final is scheduled to take place on April 15, 2026, at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern will look to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s victory has set the stage for their next challenge, as they prepare to face Atletico Madrid. The quarter-final match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will take place on April 9, 2026, with a start time of 12:30 AM IST. This match will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network in India.
Head coach Hansi Flick commented on the upcoming challenge against Atletico Madrid, stating, “Atleti is a tough team, they have the right attitude, a lot of intensity, fast players, fantastic players on the pitch.” This highlights the competitive nature of the upcoming fixtures.
As the tournament progresses, observers are keen to see how these matches unfold, particularly with the stakes so high. Vincent Kompany remarked, “The battle is only half won,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus in the next rounds.
With both Bayern Munich and Arsenal showing strong performances, the upcoming matches are expected to be highly competitive, as teams vie for a place in the semi-finals of the UCL.
