Outsourcing Reforms Urged by Puan Maharani on May Day 2026

Puan Maharani emphasized the need for stronger worker protections on May Day 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. She warned about the potential layoff of 9,000 workers and called for urgent reforms.

Workers made 11 demands during this year’s May Day, including the elimination of outsourcing. Puan stated that achieving the target of creating 19 million jobs in five years will be difficult without strengthening the industrial foundation.

Puan supports forming a workforce to address layoffs but insists that work should not stop until employees lose their jobs. She welcomed the 7th number of Permenaker regarding outsourcing but called for clear limits on the types of outsourcing.

Puan noted that the income and job security of digital transport workers should not be seen as marginal issues. She also mentioned a tragic train accident in East Bekasi that resulted in several workers’ deaths while returning home.

The state must ensure safe transportation and adequate facilities for workers’ families, according to Puan. She affirmed that all workers, including domestic workers and online drivers, deserve equal protection.
