Anbumani Ramadoss Increases Tension in Tamil Nadu Politics
Vijay’s rejection of Anbumani Ramadoss‘s demand for a Deputy Chief Minister post for his wife adds tension to the coalition talks in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The situation follows the recent 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where Vijay’s Tamil Nadu Victory Alliance (TVK) secured 106 seats.
TVK needs 12 more seats to form a government with a majority. Anbumani Ramadoss, leader of the PMK, demanded the Deputy Chief Minister position for his wife, Sowmiya. However, Vijay firmly rejected this request.
The TVK is currently negotiating with Congress, CPI, CPM, and VCK to establish a viable political alliance. Anbumani’s PMK won only 5 seats in the elections, highlighting the challenges ahead.
Vijay has requested a 14-day deadline to prove his majority. He has also written to Governor Rajendra Arlekar to form the government. Observers note that this election marks a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu politics.
Vijay plans to meet MLAs and the Governor soon. His ability to navigate these coalition talks will be crucial to securing a stable government.
