CV Shanmugam is a Rajya Sabha MP and a senior leader in AIADMK. His office recently hosted over two-thirds of AIADMK MLAs to discuss political strategies. The Tamil Nadu elections resulted in a fractured mandate, with TVK emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats.

AIADMK won 47 seats in the same elections, falling short of the majority mark of 118 seats needed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, which consists of 234 members. This situation has created a complex landscape for potential coalition governments.

The Congress has extended conditional support to TVK for government formation. However, some leaders express skepticism about this alliance. “The perception that is out in the entire country is that Congress cannot be trusted,” stated DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai.

Vijay’s TVK is currently 10 seats short of a majority in the Assembly. The dynamics among political alliances are shifting rapidly as parties navigate this new reality.
