East Bengal FC’s substitutes turned the game around, scoring two second-half goals to secure a comeback victory against Mumbai City FC on May 6, 2026. The match took place at the Mumbai Football Arena as part of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season.
Brandon Fernandes opened the scoring for Mumbai City FC in the 8th minute. However, Youssef Ezzejjari equalized for East Bengal FC with a penalty in the 56th minute. Nandha Kumar then scored the winning goal for East Bengal FC in the 71st minute.
This victory propelled East Bengal FC to the top of the table with 21 points from 10 matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC fell to fifth place with 19 points from 11 matches.
Kevin Leonel Sibille was named Player of the Match for his defensive performance. This match marked Mumbai City FC’s first home defeat of the season. Additionally, they had a goal ruled out for offside in the 65th minute.
East Bengal FC made three substitutions at halftime that significantly impacted their performance. They produced a strong second-half display to claim three points.
Mumbai City FC will look to regroup and return to winning ways in their next fixture against Mohammedan SC on May 15, away from home.
In stoppage time, Mumbai City struck the post through Gyamar Nikum’s header, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
