Weapons Arrest in Amritsar: Harmanjit Singh Detained
In recent developments in Amritsar, India, a man named Harmanjit Singh was arrested for possessing illegal weapons. This incident occurred as authorities ramp up security measures in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections.
On the day of his arrest, police recovered three pistols from Singh: one PX5 .30 bore, one .32 bore country-made, and another country-made pistol. Additionally, eight live cartridges of .30 bore were found in his possession.
As the elections approach, many licensed arms holders in the central zone have begun depositing their weapons with local police. This move is part of a broader effort to ensure public safety during the electoral process.
In the Tiruchi City Police limits, approximately 270 licensed arms holders have already deposited their firearms. This proactive measure reflects the community’s response to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, which aims to maintain order during the elections.
Further, in Mayiladuthurai district, there are 129 arms licence holders, with 95 of them choosing to deposit their weapons with the police. Similarly, in Thanjavur district, out of 572 arms licence holders, around 500 have complied with the weapon deposit requirement.
The deposit of weapons is a significant step taken by the authorities to mitigate potential violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process. It underscores the importance of maintaining law and order during this critical period.
As of now, the situation remains tense but under control, with police actively monitoring the situation and enforcing regulations regarding weapon possession.
This series of events highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing illegal firearms while ensuring the safety of the public during elections. The actions taken by licensed arms holders also demonstrate a collective responsibility towards community safety.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments in Singh’s case or the ongoing weapon deposit process in other districts.
