Yorkshire signs India international spinner Kuldeep Yadav for One-Day Cup and County Championship

Yorkshire County Cricket Club has announced the signing of India international spinner Kuldeep Yadav as an overseas player for a portion of the current English domestic season. The left-arm wrist-spinner is set to participate in both the One-Day Cup and the County Championship fixtures.

Yadav, who is 31 years old, will join the team for five matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. Following this, he will return to Headingley in September to play in three of the final four Rothesay County Championship fixtures. His immediate inclusion means he will go straight into the squad for the upcoming one-day match against Glamorgan, scheduled for Friday in south Wales.

The move comes after Yadav was part of India‘s ODI series against England this summer but did not feature in any of the three matches. His arrival is expected to bolster Yorkshire‘s bowling attack, particularly as spin is anticipated to play a significant role during the latter stages of the season, given the dry summer conditions.

Yadav’s International Experience and Impact

Kuldeep Yadav brings a wealth of international experience to Yorkshire. In his 18 Test matches, the left-arm spinner has claimed 79 wickets, with his best figures being 5-40. He previously demonstrated his effectiveness against England in 2024, securing 19 wickets across a five-match series.

His record in one-day international cricket is even more prolific, with a total of 194 wickets. His best return in this format stands at 6-25. This extensive experience at the highest level is a key factor in Yorkshire‘s decision to bring him on board.

Yorkshire‘s General Manager of Cricket, Gavin Hamilton, expressed his enthusiasm about the signing. Hamilton stated that Yadav is an accomplished, international-quality player who will add considerable strength to the team’s line-up for these blocks of fixtures. He highlighted that Yadav’s left-arm wrist spin offers another dimension to the team, which will be crucial as the season progresses.

Hamilton also noted the dry summer conditions, suggesting that spin bowling will be particularly important during the closing stages of the season. He conveyed the club’s delight in welcoming Yadav to Yorkshire, underscoring the strategic importance of his skill set.

Yadav’s Enthusiasm for English Conditions

Upon joining Yorkshire, Kuldeep Yadav shared his excitement about the opportunity. He also spoke about his enjoyment of playing in English conditions, a challenge he has always relished. After discussions with the management, he became very eager to join the team. Yadav’s signing adds him to a growing list of Indian cricketers participating in county cricket this season. This trend includes other notable players such as Yuzvendra Chahal, Jaydev Unadkat, Manav Suthar, R. Sai Kishore, and Ashutosh Sharma, further strengthening the ties between Indian and English domestic cricket.

His debut for Yorkshire is scheduled for Friday’s 50-over clash against Glamorgan.
