Zimbabwe vs south africa: South Africa Secures Semi-Final Spot with Victory
By Rohan Mehta / 01.03.2026
South Africa delivered a lackluster batting display yet managed to defeat Zimbabwe by five wickets, paving the way for a semi-final clash with New Zealand.
A vital 42 runs off 18 balls from Dewald Brevis at the number four position was key as wickets fell during South Africa’s pursuit of 154, before George Linde (30 runs off 21 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (21 runs off 24 balls) guided them to victory with 13 balls remaining.
South Africa, having triumphed in all seven of their games during this tournament, is on the hunt for their first T20 World Cup championship after previously making it to the finals in 2024.
The outcome also verifies that England, who topped Group 2 in the Super 8s, will compete against either India or West Indies in the semifinals, as neither team can equal South Africa’s total of six points.
The two teams clash in the concluding Super 8 match at 13:30 GMT, where the victor will advance to the semi-finals.
"South Africa will be tough to beat. They have fulfilled all the requirements in this competition," remarked former Australia wicketkeeper Ryan Campbell on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.
"The group possesses a strong conviction and is beginning to revel in the success of their emerging talents who have matured."
"Today focused on giving some time to the substitutes in case any players require a break."
