West Indies Cricket Team Stranded in Kolkata
The West Indies cricket team is stranded in Kolkata after their T20 World Cup exit, having lost to India by five wickets. The team’s elimination from the tournament has left them in a precarious situation as they await travel arrangements.
Cricket West Indies is currently coordinating a charter flight for the team, with an expected departure within the next 24 hours, pending air traffic approvals. Akeal Hosein humorously appealed to Cristiano Ronaldo for assistance, stating, “At this point, I’m better off asking Cristiano Ronaldo to send the jet and come rescue me, yes?” This light-hearted comment reflects the team’s frustration amid serious logistical challenges.
The West Indies cricket team’s return has been complicated by flight cancellations attributed to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. These circumstances have left the players and staff in a state of uncertainty as they wait for clarity on their travel plans.
Darren Sammy, the head coach, has sought clarity on travel logistics from the International Cricket Council (ICC), emphasizing the need for timely arrangements. Despite the challenges, Cricket West Indies has assured that the team remains safe while waiting for travel arrangements to be finalized. A spokesperson stated, “The team remains safe and well as arrangements continue to be finalized.”
As the situation develops, observers are keenly watching how quickly the team can return home and what further implications this might have for their future engagements in international cricket.
