Sreeja JS Achieves 57th Rank in Civil Services Examination
Sreeja JS has made headlines by securing the 57th rank in the Civil Services Examination on her first attempt, a significant accomplishment that reflects her dedication and hard work. With this achievement, she aims to join the prestigious Indian Foreign Service (IFS), a goal she has pursued with determination.
Born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Sreeja’s journey is a testament to overcoming challenges, especially for individuals from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. Her father, Jayakumar, worked as a daily wage labourer to support her education, while her mother, Sheeja Kumari, an MA graduate, played a crucial role in her studies until Class 9. Sreeja’s commitment to her education is evident in her academic choices, having studied at Madras Christian College for both her degree and postgraduate studies.
Reflecting on her achievement, Sreeja stated, “When I got the 57th rank, it felt like I had reached the moon itself.” This sentiment underscores the significance of her success, not just for herself but also for her community. She expressed gratitude towards her village, acknowledging that her success was not hers alone but belonged to the residents who supported her during her preparation.
Initially, Sreeja aspired to become an IAS officer, but her focus shifted towards the IFS as she progressed in her studies. Her educational journey included completing her schooling at Little Flower School, Vellayani; New Higher Secondary School, Nellimoodu; and St Mary’s School, Pattom. Notably, she demonstrated resourcefulness by using ₹2,500 she saved to buy white cement and paint to improve her study room, creating an environment conducive to her studies.
In the broader context of the Indian Foreign Service, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a notable figure, has made significant contributions to diplomacy. A 1988-batch IFS officer, Sandhu served as India’s ambassador to the US from February 2020 to January 2024 and has a diplomatic career spanning 40 years, focusing on US affairs. His commitment to serving the people is reflected in his statement, “Committed to serving the people of Delhi and the nation with dedication and humility.”
Sreeja’s journey highlights the importance of perseverance and support systems in achieving one’s goals. Her story resonates with many aspiring civil servants, particularly those from similar backgrounds, showcasing that success is attainable with hard work and determination.
As Sreeja prepares for the next steps in her journey towards the IFS, observers are keen to see how her aspirations unfold. The challenges she has faced and overcome serve as an inspiration to many, and her future endeavors will undoubtedly be watched closely.
