Auckland FC vs Perth Glory: A Thrilling Draw
“Auckland FC have dropped two crucial points in the race for the Premiers Plate after drawing 2-2 with Perth Glory in a thrilling clash at Go Media Stadium,” an observer noted after the match.
The game started positively for Auckland FC, with Sam Cosgrove scoring the first goal in the 7th minute. It looked great for the Aucklanders when Cosgrove, after a melee, got the ball past Glory goalkeeper Matt Sutton.
However, Brian Kaltak equalized for Perth Glory just before halftime, finding the net in the 39th minute. The match continued to be competitive, with Stefan Colakovski giving Perth Glory a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute.
Auckland FC responded with determination, and Cosgrove scored again, which was initially ruled a foul. The referee, however, changed the decision after VAR intervention, ultimately deeming it an own goal by Sutton.
The match featured six minutes of extra time, during which both teams pushed for a winner. “Both sides threw caution to the wind in the final stages as Perth went close to bagging the winner through Adam Taggart, however both sides were forced to settle for a point,” the observer added.
This draw has implications for Auckland FC, who are currently four points behind leaders Newcastle Jets and three points ahead of Sydney FC, who sit in third place. The result marks a hiccup in their pursuit of the A-League men’s premiership.
Next week, Perth Glory will face the Phoenix in Wellington, looking to capitalize on their recent performance. Meanwhile, Auckland FC will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming matches to regain momentum in the league.
