Carlos Alcaraz continues winning streak at Indian Wells
Carlos Alcaraz has solidified his status as a top contender in tennis by defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. This victory not only extends his perfect season record to 13-0 but also showcases his dominance on the court.
Alcaraz’s win comes on the heels of his triumph at the Australian Open in January 2026 and his earlier victory at the Qatar Open. With this latest win, he has now claimed two major trophies this season, further enhancing his reputation as a formidable player.
The match against Dimitrov lasted just over an hour, with Alcaraz managing to secure the win despite challenging windy conditions. “I think I played great. The conditions weren’t easy. A lot of wind today. So I’m just happy to get it in straight sets,” Alcaraz remarked after the match.
In addition to his impressive performance, the match drew attention from NBA star Jimmy Butler, who attended while recovering from ACL surgery. Alcaraz expressed his appreciation for Butler’s support, stating, “He’s my guy. He told me he was doing rehab close by and that he would come watch.”
Looking ahead, Alcaraz is set to face Arthur Rinderknech in the third round on March 9, 2026. Alcaraz has previously won the Indian Wells tournament in both 2023 and 2024, making him a favorite to advance further in this year’s competition.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic also competed in a separate match against Kamil Majchrzak, winning after two hours and 12 minutes. Djokovic acknowledged the challenge posed by Majchrzak, stating, “Kamil is a very solid player. He doesn’t have tremendous power, but he has every shot in the book and he was not afraid to come in and take the ball early.”
As the tournament progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Alcaraz can maintain his winning streak and add another title to his collection. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential challenges he may face in the upcoming rounds.
