FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Triumph in Castel Challenge Cup

Maxwell Phodo was named the Player of the Tournament in the 2025/26 Castel Challenge Cup, leading FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to reclaim the title with an impressive performance. Phodo finished as the competition’s top scorer, netting seven goals in just five matches, which accounted for more than half of the 12 goals scored by Bullets during the tournament.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Bullets, who first won the Castel Challenge Cup in 2023. The team had faced disappointment in the previous year, being eliminated in the semifinals by Mzuzu City Hammers in 2024. The return to form in this tournament underscores Bullets’ resilience and competitive spirit.

Phodo’s remarkable scoring ability was highlighted throughout the tournament, and his contributions were pivotal in securing the title for his team. “I’m taking Shaqiri completely out of the firing line,” said Pascal Zuberbühler, indicating a strategic shift in focus for the team as they navigate their season.

Meanwhile, FC Basel, the club associated with Xherdan Shaqiri, has fallen short of expectations this season after achieving a double last year. This situation adds a layer of complexity to the discussions surrounding player performance and team dynamics.

In a separate legal matter, Justice Carol Gobin ruled that First Citizens Bank unlawfully terminated the employment of Stephen Pennie, awarding him nine months’ salary along with interest. The ruling emphasized that the bank breached the claimant’s contract by failing to provide a fair procedure before termination.

As the football season progresses, observers are keen to see how Bullets will build on this success and whether FC Basel can recover from their current struggles. The implications of these developments will likely resonate throughout the football community.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding future matchups and potential changes within the teams involved. The focus will remain on how these narratives unfold in the coming weeks.
