New Integrated Terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

The new integrated terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati commenced commercial operations on March 11, 2026. This significant development is expected to enhance passenger handling capacity and improve operational efficiency, marking a pivotal moment for the region.

Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasized that the terminal was constructed with local participation, symbolizing Assam’s growing role as a key gateway to the northeastern region and beyond. This new facility is anticipated to bolster the local economy and improve connectivity.

Cultural Milestone: Guwahati Artists Guild’s Golden Jubilee

In addition to the airport developments, the Guwahati Artists Guild has begun its golden jubilee celebrations, marking 50 years of contribution to the visual arts in Assam. The festivities kicked off with an art exhibition featuring works by 32 women artists, inaugurated on March 9, 2026.

Titled “From the Land of Chitralekha,” the exhibition showcases a diverse range of visual languages, mediums, and materials, highlighting both emerging voices and established artists. The exhibition will remain open to visitors daily from 3 pm to 8.30 pm until March 21, 2026.

As part of the celebrations, the Guild plans several events, including a theatrical performance by Papri Medhi on March 14 and a day-long documentary screening on March 15. These events are designed to engage the community and celebrate the rich artistic heritage of the region.

Upcoming Sporting Events

On the sporting front, the Rajasthan Royals are set to face the Chennai Super Kings in their opening match on March 30, 2026, at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. This match will be one of three home games for the Royals in the city, further promoting Guwahati as a hub for major sporting events.

These developments in Guwahati reflect a vibrant and evolving landscape, with significant advancements in infrastructure and cultural initiatives. Details remain unconfirmed regarding future projects and events, but the current momentum suggests a promising trajectory for the city.
