Bergamo: Bayern Munich Dominates Atalanta in
Bayern Munich’s Strong Start
“We have set an example!” exclaimed Bayern Munich’s boss following their emphatic 6-1 victory over Atalanta in Bergamo during the UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg.
The match began with Bayern taking a commanding lead, scoring three goals within the first 25 minutes. Josip Stanisic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Michael Olise in the 22nd minute and Serge Gnabry in the 25th minute, leaving Atalanta struggling to respond.
Atalanta’s Challenge
Despite their recent success against German teams, having won four of their last five encounters, Atalanta found themselves overwhelmed. Bayern’s performance was a stark reminder of their historical strength in the Champions League, as they secured second place in the league phase to advance to the knockout stage.
In the second half, Bayern continued to dominate. Nicolas Jackson scored the fourth goal in the 52nd minute, followed by Olise’s second goal in the 64th minute and Jamal Musiala’s strike in the 67th minute, bringing the score to 6-0.
Atalanta’s Consolation
Mario Pasalic managed to score a consolation goal for Atalanta in stoppage time, but it did little to alleviate the disappointment of the home fans.
In addition to the scoreline, the match was marred by injuries for Bayern, with three players leaving the field. Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern’s representative, confirmed that Jonas Urbig was taken to the hospital for examination after a collision, stating, “Jonas is in hospital, he has most likely suffered a concussion.” Dreesen added, “Our thoughts are with you. You put in a great performance today and I’m sure you’ll get through this.”
As Bayern Munich prepares for the second leg, they will look to maintain their momentum and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
