Ferland Mendy’s Injury Update
“We don’t know yet what it is, but it doesn’t look good,” stated Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa regarding Ferland Mendy’s recent injury. The left-back was substituted at halftime during a Champions League match against Manchester City, where Real Madrid secured a 3-0 victory.
Mendy’s injury comes after a challenging season where he has struggled with fitness issues. He has made only five appearances for Real Madrid this season, primarily due to a muscle injury sustained in November. Prior to the match against Manchester City, Mendy played a full 90 minutes in a league match against Celta Vigo on March 6, 2026.
Arbeloa elaborated on the situation, saying, “I subbed off Mendy because he was carrying a knock and didn’t look good.” He expressed disappointment about the injury, adding, “It’s a shame about his injury.” This situation is particularly concerning given Mendy’s limited playtime this season.
Despite having a contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2028, Mendy’s future with the club remains uncertain. His ongoing fitness struggles have raised questions about his role in the team moving forward.
In the match against Manchester City, Federico Valverde’s hat-trick contributed to the team’s strong performance, but the focus has shifted to Mendy’s health. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature and severity of his injury, and the timeline for his recovery is unclear.
As Real Madrid prepares for the next stages of the Champions League, the team will be closely monitoring Mendy’s condition. The coaching staff and fans alike hope for a swift recovery for the player, who has shown great potential when fit.
