perambur — IN news

“He would choose either Perambur or Tiruchy East. Both are smaller constituencies, which would make it easier for him to campaign elsewhere as well,” said a functionary from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), highlighting the strategic considerations behind Vijay’s potential candidacy.

Vijay is likely to contest from the Perambur constituency in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, a region that boasts more than 2.22 lakh electors, the highest in the Chennai district. This constituency has become a major point of discussion in Tamil Nadu’s political circles.

In the last elections, the DMK and its allies secured all 16 Assembly segments in Chennai district, indicating a strong political landscape that Vijay aims to navigate. The competition is expected to be intense, with other candidates like TVK general secretary N. Anand anticipated to contest from T. Nagar.

Other potential candidates include Aadhav Arjuna from Villivakkam, J.C.D. Prabhakar from Thousand Lights, and P. Venkataraman from Mylapore. The political dynamics in Perambur are further complicated by the ongoing discussions about illegal activities in the area.

Police have launched a search to identify and apprehend those involved in illegal bike racing in Perambur. Recent enforcement drives have led to the seizure of 27 motorcycles from youths participating in these races.

Kalaiselvan, a motorist, expressed concern, stating, “Bike racing continues unabated, especially during weekends. Police usually close the flyover thinking it will stop the races, but instead they should step up enforcement.” This highlights the challenges local authorities face in maintaining public safety and traffic order.

As the political landscape evolves, it remains unclear if Vijay will officially confirm his candidacy from Perambur or Tiruchy East. Details remain unconfirmed.

The situation in Perambur continues to develop, with both political and public safety issues at the forefront of community discussions.
