Hyderabad: Heavy Rain and Hailstorm Disrupt Traffic and Fuel Supply

Heavy rain and a hailstorm affected several parts of Hyderabad on March 24, 2026, coinciding with peak evening hours and leading to significant traffic congestion across the city.

Commuters reported long queues of vehicles, particularly in the IT corridor around Gachibowli and Biodiversity Junction, as the downpour worsened traffic conditions.

Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari reassured residents on March 25 that there is no fuel shortage in the district, stating that all 181 petrol pumps in Hyderabad are fully operational and adequately stocked.

Despite this assurance, panic buying at fuel stations persisted for the third consecutive day, with many residents rushing to fill their tanks amid concerns over potential shortages.

On March 26, the situation at fuel stations began to improve in the afternoon, but LPG auto drivers faced difficulties in obtaining fuel, highlighting ongoing challenges in the wake of the storm.

Mr. Nawaz, a local resident, described the scene at the fuel station, saying, “This line extends all the way to the railway line in Balkampet. We did not sleep, only had water. We will start taking rides after catching up with some sleep.”

The heavy rainfall not only affected transportation but also raised concerns about the overall impact on daily life in Hyderabad.

As the city recovers, residents are urged to remain cautious and prepared for any further weather-related disruptions.
