IPL Team Update: RCB and SRH Honor Fans at IPL 2026
By Rohan Mehta / 28.03.2026
What impact did the tragic loss of fans have on the IPL 2026 event? During the match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28, 2026, players from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wore black armbands to honor the memory of 11 fans who died in a stampede during RCB’s title celebrations the previous year.
In a further gesture of remembrance, RCB has reserved 11 seats in the stadium to commemorate the fans who lost their lives. This somber tribute comes in the wake of RCB’s historic victory, as they won their first IPL title in 2025 after a 17-year wait.
RCB’s triumph marked a significant moment in the franchise’s history, which has been one of the defining teams in the IPL since its inception in 2008. The franchise’s all-time leading run-scorer, Virat Kohli, has amassed 8,661 runs, contributing significantly to their success.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians, another prominent team in the league, have secured a total of 5 IPL titles, with victories in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. In contrast, the Punjab Kings have yet to win an IPL title, although they were runners-up in 2014 and 2025.
The Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural IPL title in 2008, continue to be a competitive force in the tournament. Notably, all 10 teams participating in IPL 2026 are led by Indian captains for the first time, showcasing the depth of talent in Indian cricket.
The event not only highlights the competitive spirit of the IPL but also serves as a reminder of the community and camaraderie that cricket fosters among fans and players alike. As the tournament progresses, the focus will remain on honoring the memory of those lost while celebrating the sport.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further tributes or actions that may be taken by the franchises in honor of the fans. However, the unity displayed by RCB and SRH serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of such tragedies on the sporting community.
