By Rohan Mehta / 14.04.2026
Rory McIlroy has made history by winning the 2026 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, successfully defending his title from 2025. With this victory, McIlroy becomes the fourth golfer in history to win back-to-back Masters titles, joining an elite group of champions.
McIlroy’s preparation for the tournament was extensive, as he spent weeks honing his skills at Augusta National, following advice from legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. During his preparations, McIlroy showcased his exceptional talent by shooting an impressive 29 strokes on the front nine, setting the stage for his successful title defense.
Throughout the tournament, McIlroy faced stiff competition from notable players, including Scottie Scheffler, who posted an impressive score of 11 under par, and other contenders like Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young, and Justin Rose. Despite the pressure, McIlroy managed to maintain his composure and secure the victory.
In a touching moment, McIlroy’s parents, Gerry and Rosie McIlroy, were present at the 2026 Masters, marking the first time in 12 years that Rosie had witnessed her son win a major championship in person. She carried a custom-made purse designed from a newspaper print celebrating Rory’s Grand Slam achievement, adding a personal touch to the event.
After the victory, McIlroy expressed his gratitude for his family’s support, stating, “I’m so glad that they got to experience this today. We’re all going to have a great time tonight.” He also reflected on the importance of his parents’ presence, saying, “My mum and dad… they weren’t here last year… I had to convince them to come this year… I’m glad we proved that wrong.”
With this win, McIlroy now boasts a total of six major championships in his career, further solidifying his status as one of the top golfers in the sport. His remarkable journey in golf continues to inspire fans and aspiring players alike.
As golf enthusiasts look ahead, the question remains whether McIlroy can continue this momentum and add more titles to his impressive resume. Details remain unconfirmed regarding his plans for the upcoming tournaments, but his recent success at Augusta has certainly set high expectations for the future.
