Psl: Blessing Muzarabani Banned from for Two Years
By Rohan Mehta / 20.04.2026
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has faced significant changes in recent years. The IPL and PSL have been held almost simultaneously since last year, making it impossible for an international player to participate in both leagues. Pakistani cricketers have not competed in the IPL since 2008, when 12 players were selected by five franchises. This long absence has shaped the landscape of cricket in Pakistan.
In a recent development, Blessing Muzarabani has been banned from the PSL for two years after joining the IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders. Muzarabani had initially agreed to join Islamabad United before making the switch to Kolkata. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed disappointment over this decision.
“Despite a clear offer and an unequivocal acceptance of essential terms, the player chose to disregard these obligations in favour of a conflicting arrangement,” said a PCB spokesperson. This ban follows a similar case where Corbin Bosch was banned from the PSL for one year after snubbing Peshawar Zalmi for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
While these developments unfold, Wahab Riaz has called for a women’s T20 league in Pakistan based on the PSL model. He emphasized that although Pakistani women players are talented, they lack experience and exposure against stronger teams and players. “The PSL has been a big success for us, and while our girls are not short on talent, they lack the experience and exposure of playing against stronger teams and players,” Riaz stated.
Riaz’s comments come as the Zimbabwe women’s team is scheduled to tour Pakistan from April 29 to May 15, 2026. This series will include three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals, providing local players with an opportunity to compete against international opponents.
Yet, challenges remain for both leagues as they navigate player commitments and international relations. The geopolitical tensions have historically affected participation, particularly for Pakistani cricketers in the IPL.
As both leagues continue to evolve, observers will be watching how this ban impacts Muzarabani’s career and whether it influences future player decisions between leagues. The landscape of cricket continues to change rapidly, driven by both local ambitions and global opportunities.
