Yash Punja Makes IPL Debut for Rajasthan Royals
By Rohan Mehta / 20.04.2026
Yash Raj Punja made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19, 2026. The 19-year-old bowler impressed with figures of 1/25 from his four overs.
Punja’s performance included the crucial wicket of Ramandeep Singh. He had been bought by Rajasthan Royals for his base price of ₹30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction.
Punja hails from Mangalore, Karnataka, and stands at 6 feet tall. He showcased his skills as the second highest wicket-taker in the 2025 edition of the Maharaja Cup, where he took 23 wickets in just 10 matches.
Before joining the Royals, Punja spent two years as a net bowler for the franchise. His journey began as a fast bowler at the Zayed Cricket Academy in the UAE.
In 2023, he moved to Bengaluru to refine his craft at Rahul Dravid’s academy. His elder brother, Yodhin, advised him to switch to leg-spin—a decision that proved pivotal.
Ian Bishop, a renowned commentator, was among the first to notice Punja’s talent. His transition to leg-spin allowed him to develop into a promising young player.
Details remain unconfirmed about how Punja will perform in upcoming matches. Observers expect him to continue making an impact in the league.
