Gujarat Election Results

BJP’s sweeping victory in the Gujarat local body elections underscores its continued dominance across both urban and rural regions. As of April 28, 2026, the BJP has taken a lead, winning over 3,750 seats so far out of more than 9,200 seats contested.

The BJP won all 15 Municipal Corporations in Gujarat. It secured 33 out of 34 District Panchayats. The decisive moment came as results rolled in, showing that the BJP dominated urban bodies, crossing the 50% mark in each municipal corporation.

Key statistics:

• BJP won 467 out of 493 declared seats in municipal corporations.
• BJP secured 568 out of 1,090 seats in district panchayats.
• BJP won 2,397 seats out of 5,234 in taluka panchayats.

Congress struggled to make an impact. It won only 20 seats in Municipal Corporation elections and secured 192 seats in municipalities. The party managed to win a single seat in Surat Municipal Corporation.

The Aam Aadmi Party registered limited success, winning a handful of seats. This performance reflects ongoing challenges for opposition parties in Gujarat politics.

The elections covered a wide range of local governance structures including 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. Experts view these results as critical indicators of political strength at the grassroots level.
