கோயம்புத்தூர் — IN news

Heavy rain is predicted in Coimbatore and surrounding districts over the next week, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat in Tamil Nadu. The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for heavy rain across eight districts, including Coimbatore and Madurai.

Rainfall will likely occur with thunderstorms and strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h. The weather pattern is influenced by a trough extending from western Rajasthan to the Kumari Sea.

The forecast indicates several significant weather events:

  1. On May 2, 2026, light to moderate rain is expected in various areas of Tamil Nadu.
  2. On May 3, heavy rain is anticipated in the hill areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts.
  3. On May 5, heavy rain is again expected in Coimbatore and surrounding districts.
  4. On May 6, heavy rain is forecasted for the hill areas of Coimbatore.
  5. On May 8, heavy rain is expected to return to several districts including Coimbatore and Tiruppur.

The maximum temperature during this period is expected to hover around 39-40°C. Observers note that heavy rain during the summer months is unusual for Tamil Nadu, which typically experiences high temperatures in April and May. The region often sees little rainfall until the monsoon season begins.

Weather officials continue to monitor conditions closely. They advise residents to prepare for possible disruptions due to thunderstorms and heavy winds.
