Assam election results
The BJP has achieved a historic third consecutive term in Assam, securing 73 seats in the state assembly elections held on May 4, 2026. The voter turnout exceeded 85%, reflecting strong public engagement.
In addition to BJP’s success, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 6 seats, while the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) secured 8 seats. Congress gained 10 seats and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) clinched 2 seats. Raijor Dal and the Trinamool Congress each won 1 seat.
Himanta Biswa Sarma continues as Chief Minister. He stated that the victory underscores the effectiveness of the BJP election strategy. Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress leader, acknowledged the challenges ahead for his party.
The counting process began on May 4, and BJP is currently leading in 9 out of the remaining 25 seats. Congress is leading in 10 of those seats as well.
