Tamil nadu election results

The entry of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) adds a new dimension to the traditional two-party contest in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections took place on April 23, 2026, with a remarkable voter turnout of 85.1%.

Counting of votes began at 8 a.m. on May 4, 2026. Approximately 1.25 lakh security personnel were deployed for the counting process. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) seeks a second consecutive term, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is allied with the BJP.

The DMK has not received consecutive terms in the past half-century in Tamil Nadu. The TVK, led by C. Joseph Vijay, is a new entrant in this election cycle. Exit polls predicted that DMK+ would secure between 92-110 seats, while TVK is forecasted to win between 98-120 seats.
