Chelsea vs nottm forest
By Ananya Rao / 05.05.2026
Chelsea’s season plunged to a dispiriting new low as they lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on May 4, 2026. This defeat marks Chelsea’s sixth consecutive Premier League loss, raising serious concerns about their relegation battle.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored two goals for Nottingham Forest. Igor Jesus added a penalty, while Joao Pedro scored Chelsea’s only goal in stoppage time. Chelsea had endured a five-game scoring drought before this match, which only exacerbated their struggles.
Nottingham Forest scored quickly—just 98 seconds into the match. They doubled their lead 15 minutes later. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer had a penalty saved in the first half, further compounding the team’s woes.
Jesse Derry made his first Premier League start for Chelsea but was stretchered off with a serious head injury during the match. Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez also left the field injured after a collision, leaving Chelsea’s interim head coach Calum McFarlane with limited options.
The defeat solidified Chelsea’s worst run of league form since 1912. They now sit dangerously close to the relegation zone, while Nottingham Forest moved six points clear of it with this win.
The Blues’ five-game scoring drought had almost reached six—far beyond the point of credibility. Fans and analysts alike are questioning the direction of the club amid ongoing managerial changes and injuries.
Officials have not disclosed any timeline for recovery regarding Derry or Sánchez. The team must regroup quickly as they face mounting pressure in upcoming fixtures.
