Rishabh Pant Sanjiv Goenka Message
By Rohan Mehta / 05.05.2026
“It’s been a tough season for us, and there is no running away from that, but one person for us who has had the most difficult time is our owner, Mr Goenka; he’s one of those guys,” said Rishabh Pant. The statement reflects the mounting pressure on Pant as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during IPL 2026.
LSG has recorded only two wins in eight matches so far this season. Former players have suggested that the team should consider removing Pant from his captaincy role. Critics argue that the pressure of leading the team is affecting his batting performance.
This season, Pant has scored 204 runs in nine matches, with a highest score of 68 not out. His struggles have raised concerns about his effectiveness both as a captain and a batsman.
Key statistics:
- LSG’s current record: 2 wins, 6 losses in IPL 2026
- Pant’s total runs: 204 in 9 matches
- Pant’s highest score: 68 not out
Sanjiv Goenka recently expressed hope for West Bengal’s future after the BJP’s election victory. The BJP secured over 205 out of 294 assembly seats, which may reflect positively on his business ventures.
The team dynamics at LSG have become increasingly complex. Manoj Tiwary stated, “Rishabh Pant should be released from captaincy pressure.” He believes that this pressure detracts from Pant’s abilities as a batter.
The Lucknow Super Giants will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 7, 2026. This match could be pivotal for both Pant and LSG as they seek to turn their season around.
