RCB GT: Kohli’s 81 Runs Propel RCB to Victory
By Rohan Mehta / 25.04.2026
Did Virat Kohli’s match-winning performance change the course of the game? Yes, it did. Kohli scored a crucial 81 runs, guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 match held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB chased down a target of 206 runs, scoring 206 for 5 in just 19.1 overs. Kohli’s innings included eight fours and four sixes off 44 balls. His knock came after GT dropped a catch that could have shifted the game’s momentum. “Catches win matches, and Gujarat Titans learned that the hard way,” an observer noted.
Sai Sudharsan also played impressively for GT, scoring a century with 100 runs off 57 balls. Despite his efforts, GT fell short as RCB capitalized on their chances. RCB has now won four out of six matches this season, placing them second on the points table with a net run rate of +1.101.
Kohli emphasized the importance of assessing the wicket early in his post-match comments. He stated, “To be honest, we had to assess the wicket early on because A) they have a quality bowling attack and B) chasing 200 at the Chinnaswamy, we were just one partnership away.” His leadership proved vital as RCB maintained their strong form.
Gujarat Titans started their campaign poorly, losing their first two matches before winning three in a row. This loss against RCB halts their momentum. In their head-to-head record, both teams have now won three matches each.
Looking ahead, RCB will face Delhi Capitals on April 27 in Delhi. Fans are eager to see if Kohli can continue his form and lead RCB further up the points table.
The outcome of this match raises questions about GT’s strategy moving forward. They will need to address their catching issues if they hope to compete effectively in T20 cricket this season.
