The 2026 elections in India have produced significant upsets. The BJP is headed for a landslide victory in West Bengal, while the TVK, a debut party led by actor Vijay, is making waves in Tamil Nadu.

Before this election, expectations favored the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu. However, the results show a dramatic shift. In West Bengal, BJP has bagged 72 seats, while TMC has only 29 seats. In Tamil Nadu, TVK has won 65 seats and leads on 43 seats out of 234 total constituencies.

The decisive moment came during polling held on April 23 and April 29 in West Bengal. Voter turnout reached an impressive 92 percent, indicating strong public engagement. The high turnout likely influenced the results significantly.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to form the next government in Puducherry with a majority of 18 seats. This marks a significant shift as well, indicating broader support for NDA policies across various states.
